Loading... Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has secured approval from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to install a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across Mumbai.
With real-time monitoring from Tata Power 's Power System Control Center (PSCC), the BESS will strengthen Mumbai's grid resilience, support clean energy adoption, and fulfill energy storage obligations. The project underscores Tata Power's commitment to sustainable, future-ready power solutions.
This will prevent large-scale blackouts and enhance Mumbai's power network resilience. The entire 100 MW system will be installed in the next two years across 10 strategically located sites, especially near load centres across Mumbai Distribution, centrally monitored and controlled from Tata Power's Power System Control Center.
It will protect essential services including the Mumbai Metro, hospitals, airports, and data centers from large-scale blackouts. The system is also designed to optimize reactive power management, improve peak demand efficiency, and reinforce the city's overall electricity infrastructure.
