The adoption of innovative technologies, such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), has significantly advanced aquaculture in Saudi Arabia. RAS allows for the farming of fish and other aquatic organisms in a closed-loop system where water is continuously filtered and reused.
The goal was to conduct studies on prospective species suitable for fish farming in the Kingdom and introduce new aquaculture hatchery technologies, train qualified Saudis, choose ideal aquaculture sites, and give technical and advisory support to aquaculture farms.

Under MEWA supervision, the Saudi Aquaculture Society was formed.
