Four Malaysian telcos submit bids to build second 5G network
The Malaysian government confirmed that the tender process ended on July 31, 2024, a month after the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)
The MCMC has been tasked with selecting a mobile network service provider to develop Malaysia's second 5G network, commencing with the AIP (Application Information Package) process on July 1.
All mobile operators in Malaysia are currently offering 5G services via DNB's 5G network. DNB had previously announced that four operators have completed the share subscription agreement (SSA), with each obtaining a 16.3% stake in DNB The telcos which completed the SSAs include CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile and YTL.
KUALA LUMPUR: Four major mobile network operators (MNOs) have officially submitted their tenders to the government for the construction of a second wholesale 5G network. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. Fahmi said the MNOs are CelcomDigi Bhd, Maxis Bhd, UMobile and Telekom Malaysia Bhd.
Key government initiatives, particularly the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), combined with investments by telecommunications operators, have driven this growth. However, challenges remain in rural areas, where coverage is still inconsistent. Malaysia's mobile download speed increased 2.3 times as 5G adoption surged.
